March 2026 Action Post
| An action that we have taken to support our school’s learning focus is: | • Student Voice Survey (Literacy Focus) for Primary (Grades 2 and 3) and Intermediate Grades (Grades 4-7) |
| This action supports our school’s learning focus in the following ways: | • Student Voice Survey data provides insight into how our learners feel about themselves as readers and their reading habits, allowing our staff to see where further support is needed in order to shift our learners' perspectives about their own learning • Student Voice Survey data allows for points of comparison between learner attitudes about reading, Fall RFRA data, and Term 1 Proficiency data in English Language Arts
|
What we learned: Our students' reading fluency levels from the Fall Reading Assessment align with their self-reported confidence with reading out loud. Our students are still growing their confidence in reading out loud. Based on student voice data, a small portion of our students choose reading as an independent leisure activity on their own time. Based on our Fall Reading Assessment results, our Grade 2 and 3 students demonstrated a relative strength with inferencing and are continuing to need support with responding to a text and making connections. Our Grade 4-7 students demonstrated relative strengths responding and identifying main ideas and are continuing to need support with inferencing, making predictions, and making connections. Since the Fall Reading Assessment was completed, teachers have been engaging in direct instruction using a variety of strategies and programs to address reading comprehension skills. We will be administering the Spring Richmond Reading for Formative Assessment in third term.
