Student and Community Voice

In January 2025, our parent community was invited to respond to a confidential questionnaire about feelings of belonging and how their child feels about their learning and school. We received 100 parent responses to the questionnaire. Respondents were also given the opportunity to share other thoughts or more details through an open-ended question at the end of the questionnaire. Almost all respondents feel welcome at our school and agree that their child enjoys being at school and feels connected.

As part of our continued scanning, we collected student voice data. Students in grades 2/3 through 7 responded to open-ended and multiple choice questions about connection and belonging, feelings of safety, and their learning.

The data showed that our students feel connected to our staff and could identify many things that they like about our school.

The survey data also showed that students feel comfortable going to adults at school (staff) for help.

Most students were also able to identify an area of learning that they were good at.

Students were also able to reflect on and identify an area of learning that was challenging for them.

When we further sorted the data into Upper Primary, Lower Intermediate, and Upper Intermediate grades, it became apparent that our students felt more confident in Numeracy than Literacy overall.

Upper Primary students reported Numeracy being a more challenging area in their learning than Literacy. As students moved up in grades, the gap between Numeracy being a challenging area versus Literacy being an area of stretch grew smaller.
